A video game series single-handedly responsible for an entire subgenre of games, it's hard to imagine a world without it. Laying the blueprint for combo-stacking, style-centric video game goodness for generations to come, you can’t help but love it. However, we must remind ourselves, Capcom and Hideki Kamiya were not alone in building this legacy. 

A perfect combination of easy-to-pick-up and hard-to-master, Devil May Cry encourages players to flaunt their understanding of the system in place, almost unsurprisingly spawning a slew of YouTube videos that do just that. One of the central figures of this subgenre goes by the name of donguri990, breaking through the scene with the release of the third installment.

Inspiring mastery of the game, straight-out-of-anime stretches of combos, and simply joyous to watch in awe, the Japanese YouTuber built a following by showing the limits to what a player can achieve with the game. donguri990 has since moved on to playing other games as well, slowly building a presence in the greater space, amassing a following on and off the platform over the years, and eternally making a cameo in discussions of the greatest combo makers across different threads.

It goes without saying, a lot have come before him, and much more are currently making waves in creating combo-madness montages. With a constantly evolving library of games to try and an even greater army of aspiring content creators, although a niche indeed, the space has grown to be as exciting and passionate as any other community of gamers out there.

Although you may have your personal opinion on whose techniques you stand by, you cannot deny the number of hours and creativity that goes into creating these videos. After all, as wild and unreplicable combo MAD videos can seem at first, it takes a dedicated studio, an obsessive player, and an appreciative audience to make it look like magic.
