One Ear brand - showcasing the versatility of the humble bandana

Bandanna culture is something mostly under the radar in the fashion industry, and the utility of bandannas is deeply ingrained in the world of fashion. From Japan to Europe there is a worldwide familiarity with bandannas even if they are called something else in their native languages. The humble textile getting its name from a Portuguese explorer's mispronunciation of a Hindu word for resist-tie-dyeing, the bandanna has gone from simple a textile to cultural phenomenon. Recently bandannas have taken center stage with their use in street culture. Specifically the paisley designs that were popular in the 1940’s-1960’s, Made-in-USA bandannas. After over a decade of research of bandannas, One Ear Brand was born.

Yurika Shikai is the artist behind all the designs for One Ear. Working with textile researcher/designer Jonathan Lukacek for production, design and creative direction. Starting the brand in 2019 their creative energy and vast knowledge brought the art bandanna into existence. Combining hand sketches and classic bandanna design concepts together they have introduced something totally new to the industry.

These large size bandannas are usually thought of as silk scarves made by luxury brands. Yurika and Jonathan have tried to bring the utility of bandannas with the creativity and collectability of the luxury market. Their eye-catching design, aligned with bold colors are fashionable for a constantly evolving industry. Entirely manufactured in the Kansai region of Japan, these selvedge 100% cotton, hand-print-dyed bandannas are like nothing else available on the market.

Starting in 2022 after growing slowly and carefully, while creating a product line that appeals to a wide variety of customers One Ear really needed to get some media created. Opting for Lewis, aka @d0wdy_ who really fit their vibe was the perfect find. Based in Detroit, Mi, he takes the bandannas to places we could of never imagined. From urban sprawl to the realm of nature he has shown how the humble bandanna can adorn and perform for any style. During the summer of 2022 he did a studio shoot to capture the collection in a controlled environment. This series of photos really gives the One Ear complete-visual-experience.
