Music and Anime Blended By AI - "Coherence" by Sagans
Some argue that "AI is the end of us". Since the introduction of artificial intelligence [AI], the topic has been always stirring debate and sparking conversations between people of all generations.
Some people argue that our world will become similar to the 2004 film "I, Robot", others claim it will help society and make it a more comfortable world. There have already been many cases of AI being implemented into the real world, in attempt to make our lives easier and better. So far, many of these projects have succeeded.
While many tend to focus on how AI can be used to basically replace manpower, there is a collective that caught our eye with the way they use AI. Meet Sagans [@sagansagansagans], an AI collective made up of music artists, graphic designers, and researchers who create otherworldly sound and visuals with the help of artificial intelligence. Their most recent project, the music video for their song "Coherence", gives a deep look into their work, and how artificial intelligence is the key to unlocking new creative possibilities, something that can not be done with just us, humans. The collective's bio is even generated by AI.
The video is based in a city, constantly changing yet also evolving at the same time. The character portrayed is lost in the chaos, and must adapt to the changes, and find their place in the city. An eternal search for true meaning, something that can be taken from both a human and AI perspective.
Coherence utilizes some of the latest AI algorithms, including latent diffusions, and a neural-style transfer algorithm. The artificial intelligence has studied drawings and illustrations by the legendary Katsuhiro Otomo, learning his process of drawing but also asking the reverse-engineering of this. Most of the shots seen in the music video have been generated by text, but the machine can not fully replicate Otomo's touch. These small flaws add to the atmosphere of the video, resulting in something inperfect, something human, something emotional. What Sagans is doing is a new take on AI and cyberpunk.
